What is SSS?
SSS (read aloud as “Triple S” or occasionally just as a hissing sound) is Showpeople Songwriting Showdown! It’s a reality tv/game show-style web series where teams of songwriters write brand new music. Their new songs are then put head to head and scored by a panel of judges, including members of the Showpeople community!
What are the prizes?
What is the time commitment to write?
Composers and lyricists (often paired in teams) will be at the episode filming Zoom meetings, the mornings of 4/12, 4/19, 5/3, 5/17, and 5/31, unless eliminated during episodes before the finale. They will then write based on their prompt assignments during the weeks of 4/13, 4/20, 5/4, and 5/18 (note that most times writers have a week off from any commitment after writing).
What is the time commitment to be a vocalist on the demos?
Based on your individual scheduled availability, we'd work with you in NYC at some point during the weeks of 4/28, 5/12, and/or 5/26. Music will be learned and recorded very fast, so we're looking for vocalists who can pick up tunes quickly and make choices on the fly!
What is the time commitment to be a guest judge?
Only the Saturday morning filming session you're assigned to! Options are 4/19 9-11a, 5/3 10a-12p, 5/17 10a-12p, and 5/31 10a-1p. Fair warning that this is often the position with the most interest - we recommend being a contestant this year as it will make us that much more excited to welcome you back in future seasons as a guest judge!
What other roles are there?
Mainly editors of video and audio. We do have team members already assigned to video editing, but help is always appreciated and welcomed!
Our audio editing to produce professional demo recordings is done by 4Force Studios, a partner of Showpeople. They collaborated with audio editors last season to help with the rapid turnaround, but there is definitely a threshold of skill here as the demos are one of the awards for the competitors. We would appreciate a sample of your work if you want to help with that!
